Objectives and competences

The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic concepts and technologies in the field of multimedia. The subject deals with the analogue and digital principles of recording audio visual contents and upgrades them with descriptions of the architecture of modern multimedia systems, which are the basis for the technical implementation of multimedia services. Through the treatment of the properties of multimedia elements such as images, sound and video, students learn about their characteristics and specifics that are important for the processes of production, preparation and transfer of multimedia content to end users.

Lectures, demonstrations, practical laboratory work.

Intended learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Describe the properties and specifics of individual multimedia building blocks
  • Calculate the required bandwidth for transmitting AV signals in standard, high and ultra high resolution
  • Understand and establish a technology chain from signal capture to signal processing and broadcasting
  • To assess the advantages and disadvantages of individual ways of broadcasting multimedia content from source to end user

Na Fakulteti za elektrotehniko Univerze v Ljubljani predava v okviru predmetov RTV sistemi ter Studijska in snemalna tehnika na dodiplomskem študijskem programu MM, Načrtovanje celovite uporabniške izkušnje in uporabniških vmesnikov na magistrskem študijskem programu MM ter pri predmetu Multimedijski sistemi na študijskem programu Elektrotehnika (UN). V okviru doktorskega študijskega programa Elektrotehnika je nosilec predmeta Interaktivnost in uporabniška izkušnja v multimedijskih sistemih. Je tudi mentor pri diplomskih, magistrskih in doktorskih nalogah. 

Raziskovalno deluje na področju multimedijskih sistemov, uporabniških vmesnikov in uporabniške izkušnje s poudarkom na tehnologijah zagotavljanja dostopnosti. Sodeloval je pri številnih evropskih projektih na področju interaktivne digitalne televizije, izobraževanja na daljavo, p2p sistemov in izvajanja spletnih storitev na mobilnih in stacionarnih terminalih. Aktivno sodeluje na industrijskih projektih s področja naprednih interaktivnih storitev za  podjetja Iskratel, Telekom Slovenije, Mobitel.
