April Fridays at UL FE: Exploring Technology, Research and Measurement

Publication date: 2. 3. 2026

At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL FE), we are once again opening our doors to secondary school students and inviting you to join us for three Fridays in April dedicated to exploration, technology, and measurement. Through these events, we aim to showcase the diversity, interdisciplinarity, and connections between electrical engineering and other fields, while inspiring young people to pursue studies and contribute to the development of future technologies.

10 April – ICT Day

On ICT Day, visitors will discover modern information and communication technologies through practical demonstrations presented by our laboratories. Among other things, we will present:

  • BMFGA (Biomechanical Feedback Golf Application) – an application for analyzing golf technique. Using a sensor attached to the club, it displays a 3D visualization of the swing in real time and allows comparison with a reference swing. Visitors will be able to test their swing speed and angle accuracy.
  • The use of sensor systems in sports.
  • Cybersecurity and modern approaches to data protection.
  • Radar cross-section research – “detecting invisible aircraft”.
  • Smart home and virtual reality solutions.

Visitors will learn how measurements, data, and artificial intelligence are shaping sports, security, mobility, and everyday life.

17 April – Elektrofest

Elektrofest is a day of research, experimentation, and interaction with researchers and students, traditionally organized in cooperation with the companies EIMV, ELES, and GEN energija. Projects from the fields of electronics, energy systems, automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable technologies will be presented.

Special focus will be placed on:

  • Smart homes with non-invasive monitoring and a conversational agent supporting users.
  • The development of solutions that help extend independent living for older adults.
  • Electrification of mobility and the integration of electric vehicles into the power grid.
  • Concepts of ambient intelligence, combining artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and advanced user interfaces.

24 April – 5 Minutes for Measurement

The theme of the event 5 Minutes for Measurement is measurement as the foundation of every scientific and technological experiment.

We will prepare engaging interactive demonstrations where visitors will be able to:

  • Explore different types of measurements from everyday life.
  • Understand how data becomes smart systems.
  • See how measurement connects sports, healthcare, energy, mobility, and digital technologies.

The event is intended for secondary school students, university students, and the wider public.

Why visit the April Fridays at UL FE?

  • Because you will experience technology in practice.
  • Because you will learn about study programmes and laboratories.
  • Because you will see how solutions for a sustainable and digital future are developed.
  • And because this may be the beginning of your academic journey.

We look forward to welcoming you and your students.
