The 27th Summer Camp of Innovative Technologies Begins at UL FE

Today, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana once again filled with young researchers, creators and technology enthusiasts. The 27th Summer Camp of Innovative Technologies has begun, and until Friday participants will explore the world of electrical engineering, electronics, robotics and digital technologies through practical work.

From an idea to the first working product

Following the introductory meeting, participants headed to the laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, where they began working on their projects under the guidance of mentors. The camp is intended for pupils from the end of the 4th grade of primary school to the end of the 3rd year of secondary school, with its main emphasis remaining on practical, “hands-on” learning.

Rather than gaining knowledge only through explanations from mentors, the young participants will learn primarily by designing, assembling, programming, testing and solving concrete technological challenges. In doing so, they will use modern technical equipment and develop digital skills, creativity and the ability to solve problems independently.

Ten workshops, ten paths into the world of technology

This year’s programme consists of ten different workshops tailored to different age groups and interests. The youngest participants will be introduced to autonomous mobile systems in the Lego Stormers workshop, while in Scratch Masters they will take their first steps into the world of block-based programming.

In the Mastering Electronics workshop, participants will design and build an active Bluetooth speaker; in the AC/DC Laboratory, they will learn about electricity generation; and in the Virtual 4D Trip workshop, they will create a tangible interface for controlling a computer. In the Knight Without a Steering Wheel workshop, they will develop electronics and software for an autonomous vehicle.

Older participants can also look forward to Electric Vehicles, where they will learn about electric bicycles and solar-powered charging; Electricity in the Human Body, which will take them from electrical phenomena at the cellular level to signals in the human body; Robotics Challenge, focused on solving a robotic challenge as a team; and Sensors, where they will build a level meter using a pressure sensor and an Arduino module.

A week of exploration, creativity and new experiences

The Summer Camp of Innovative Technologies will take place at UL FE until Friday, 21 August. Participants have five days of exploration and creativity ahead of them. Alongside practical work, they will also have the opportunity to meet peers with similar interests, as well as experienced mentors and young experts from various fields of electrical engineering and multimedia.

In its 27th edition, the camp continues to bring modern technologies closer to young people through curiosity, collaboration and, above all, hands-on experimentation with their own ideas – from the first plans to fully functioning solutions.
