Project Management

Subject description

Introduction to project management: project goals and scope, project phases, analysis and planning, project life cycle. Project planning: project goals, project scope, conceptualization and initial planning, methods and techniques in project planning, resource management. Project executions: analysis of Gannt diagram, plan optimization, closing project and project evaluation. ICT systems and services: product life cycle, requirements analysis, design process, solution evaluation. Introduction to process and systems modelling with UML. Project presentation: group work, presentation skills, software for managing projects. Analysis of selected multimedia and information technology projects.

Objectives and competences

The objective of the course Project management is to introduce students into project oriented work in engineering and ICT. The goal of the course is to present ideas, prepare project documentation, set requirements and efficiently communicate in the project team. Student learns software tools for managing projects.

Teaching and learning methods

In the lectures, the theoretical foundations of the discussed chapters are presented together with the solution of simple practical examples. Study material with detailed content is available to students. Practical work takes place within the laboratory work. Students prepare individual project on the selected ICT topic and presents it. 

Expected study results

After successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Define characteristics of project-oriented work in the field of ICT.

Define goal and scope of the project.

Understand project life cycle and system development life cycle.

Planning and executing a project with selected software tools.

Mastering skills and techniques of reporting and presentation skills.
