Mechatronics

Subject description

Introduction to mechatronics: terms, synthesis of computer science, electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering. Mechanic components in mechatronics. Acquisition and transfer of measured quantities. Electro-mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators. Principles and design of mechatronic systems control. Intelligent control through programmable controllers and microprocessor systems: architectures, program support, human- machine interface. Analysis of operation on examples of mechatronic systems for different applications.

The subject is taught in programs

Objectives and competences

An insight into synergy  of electrical engineering, computer science and mechanics from a perspective of required engineering and technical knowledge and practical synthesis of these knowledge through practical examples.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures (30 hours) and seminar/exercises (30 hours). Foreign students: project/seminar.

Expected study results

The goal of the course is to obtain the following outcomes:

  • description of characteristics of a general mechatronic system
  • analysis of operation of selected cases of mechatronic systems
  • explanation of operation od actuator and sensor subsystems,
  • interconnection of knowledge for description of mechatronic systems,
  • evaluation of suitability of a chosen electromechanical actuator for specific tasks.
