Convergent multimedia services

Subject description

  • Overview of existing ICT and multimedia services: fixed, mobile, internet and broadcasting services, convergence and divergence of services and domains
  • Open APIs and next generation Web
  • End-user devices
  • Architectures, protocols and content formats in convergent multimedia services
  • Development of convergent multimedia services from end-user’s and operator’s perspective
  • User experience and interaction design principles

The subject is taught in programs

Objectives and competences

The goal is to pass knowledge about functioning and development of convergent multimedia services and content, provided through internet, broadcasting systems, fixed and mobile systems. Students will acquire knowledge about the architectures, open APIs, protocols and other technological aspects needed for development of broadband services and content. Additionally they will learn about the properties of end-user terminal equipment and related user interaction principles.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, demonstrations, practical laboratory work.

Expected study results

The students will acquire knowledge about the service provisioning environment including the architectures,  tools and design principles in different communication systems. They will learn about the end-user terminal devices, network architectures and protocols as well as  system and user aspects of design, development and service delivery.
