  • Introduction to telecommmunications: a historial overview,
  • Fundamentals on communication signals: analog and digital signals.
  • Signal processing for communication: coding, modulation and multiple access.
  • Network connections: communication media, channel model and capacity.
  • Communication protocols fundamentals: protocol layering and standardization, common types of protocols.
  • Basic network devices and its functionality.
  • Telecommunication networks: topology, hierarhy and key technologies.
  • Broadband Internet access networks:  technologies overview, availability and security.

The subject is taught in programs

Objectives and competences

Intruductory subject in the field of multimedia communications. It presents the basics of digital communications.

Introduction to telecommmunication network topologies, protocols  and technologies.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures and practical laboratory work.

Expected study results

Basic knowledge on transmitting and receiving information.

Understanding the basic principles of telecommunication networks.

The course also offers an overview of the telecommunication network key technologies.
