The green transition, i.e. the transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy, is a key strategy to tackle the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. It involves technologies that enable the development of a competitive economy while minimising environmental impact.

Modern society is defined by increasing energy needs, which is particularly reflected in electricity consumption, which is becoming even more important with the electrification of transport and heating. This makes the transition to renewable energy sources central to sustainable development, i.e. to reducing the carbon footprint and protecting natural resources. Sun, wind and water offer clean and renewable energy that does not harm the environment and reduces dependence on fossil fuels, while allowing the development of modern industry.

At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, we are working on advanced technological solutions that are at the heart of the green transition. We are one of Slovenia’s leading institutions in the field of power system operation analysis and planning, where we create solutions for the integration of a high share of renewable energy sources, electric vehicles and heat pumps.

We are developing algorithms for the management of battery storage systems, which are becoming one of the most important technologies in modern electricity grids. The faculty is also developing high-efficiency solar cells as a key technology in the field of renewable energy sources, and we are also working on the design of electric motors and power converters, which are the carriers of electric mobility.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering combines expertise in the fields of power engineering, electrical machinery and electronics to deliver sustainable solutions to the challenges of modern society in the areas of electricity generation and consumption.
