Data Processing in Official Statistics

Subject description

Data processing, protection and dissemination in official statistics:

  • Methods and techniques of data editing, weighting, imputation and variance estimation.

  • Data editing for time series analysis, preliminary estimates and revisions.

  • Small area estimation.

  • Statistical disclosure control and data confidentiality.

  • Data description and visualisation, data mining and knowledge creation.

Objectives and competences

Course objective is to gain comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of data processing, protection and dissemination in official statistics. The lectures will be given by local and/or foreign experts in each selected field.

Competences:

  • Knowledge of approaches to data processing in official statistics.

  • Knowledge of scientific foundations of data processing in official statistics.

  • Familiarity with statistical programmes for data processing in official statistics and their advantages and disadvantages.

  • Understanding of needs and possibilities for an adequate narrative and visualization when disseminating data in official statistics.

Expected study results

The student will become familiar with different methods and specifics of data processing and presentation in official statistics and will be able to independently perform scientific research in this field.
