Laboratory of Control Engineeringand Power Electronics

In cooperation with the colleagues of the Department of Mechatronics, we are engaged in teaching and research in the field of power electronics systems, microprocessor technology and programmable controllers in the field of mechatronics.

High dynamics, reliability and high energy efficiency of a mechatronic system (ABS, positioning electric motor drives, ….) can only be achieved through continuous intervention (regulation), which is not effective without a sufficiently fast and accurate measurement of the physical quantities and a correspondingly fast operation via its actuator. Both are closely linked to modern power converters and the advent of control algorithms, which are integrated into larger systems via supervisory computer systems and programmable controllers.

Because mechatronic systems – in their smaller and larger forms – are encountered at every turn, our work is visible through our ongoing research and products:

  • static power converters for electric motor drives, precision sinusoidal voltage and current generators and process current sources for galvanotechnical processes. One of the most important areas of activity is network active filters.

  • microcontroller systems are developed to control the processes of these power electronics applications. They can be used to regulate even the most complex systems, such as controlling an asynchronous motor without a speedometer and detecting faults during the operation of inverters and machines.

All this is complemented by a mastery of modern industrial controllers.

We offer a number of courses in Mechatronics (UN) and Energy Engineering and Machine Automation (ETAP – VS), where students can expect a pleasant environment, quality lectures and well-equipped laboratories for practical work and further education.
