Laboratoryfor Telecommunications
The Laboratory for Telecommunications (LTFE) connects researchers, experts, innovators and educators in the fields of cybersecurity, networking, IoT, distributed ledger technologies, and critical communications and infrastructures. Through research and innovation in the scope of national and European research projects, we address applied scientific challenges, build prototypes and pilots, and, in close collaboration with stakeholders, deploy and validate technological innovations in concrete industrial verticals and infrastructures. We leverage our expertise and experience in teaching and dedicated professional training to help create, educate and train new generations of scientists, innovators and skilled professionals in response to the current and future needs of the Slovenian and European economy. Within the ICT Academy , we provide training in various areas of ICT, projects to harmonise ICT skills in companies and tailor-made training programmes.
In the laboratory, we deliver courses at all levels of study at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, primarily within the ICT programme, but also in a multidisciplinary capacity and in the context of other fields of study. Our work covers a broad portfolio of ICT skills, ranging from a basic introduction to the ICT world to a deep dive into the specifics of cyber-security, internetworking, distributed ledger technologies, sensor technologies and the Internet of Things. In complement to this, we strive to bring students as close as possible to practice along with theory, which is why an important part of our lectures are also selected invited lectures by experts, excursions to companies and purposeful solving of real challenges in industry through student involvement in project work.
Moreover, LTFE is engaged in a broad portfolio of scientific and innovation activities in the framework of European and national projects and in collaboration with industrial partners. Our research and development work includes, among others, the design and implementation of telecommunication protocols, the research, development and implementation of pilot cyber honeypots in Internet and critical infrastructures and solutions for advanced monitoring and profiling of cyber risks, and the design and development of advanced applications in the field of critical communications and services for protection, rescue and public safety. Our work has resulted in, among others, the Cyberlab platform, and we have opened the doors to our Testcenter to external stakeholders, which, with its state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment, enables a wide range of advanced testing, experimentation and validation of digital infrastructures.
