Freshers’ Welcome 2026

The new academic year is just around the corner. On Thursday, 1 October 2026, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana will welcome a new generation of first-year students and introduce them to everything they need for a successful start to their studies.

Welcome for first-year students at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering

The welcome for first-year students will take place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering on Thursday, 1 October 2026, according to the following schedule:

The new students will first be welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Marko Topič, followed by:

• a presentation of the study programme and study regulations,
• a presentation of the tutoring system,
• a presentation of the status of students with special needs,
• an address by the President of the Alumni Club,
• a presentation by students offering useful advice for an easier start to university life.

Welcome for first-year students at Congress Square

Following the welcome at the Faculty, the programme will continue in the centre of Ljubljana. On Thursday, 1 October 2026, from 16:00 to 21:00, the University of Ljubljana and the UL Student Council will organise the traditional Welcome for First-Year Students and the ceremonial opening of the 2026/2027 academic year at Congress Square.

Students will be welcomed by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič, UL Student Council representative Maksim Miklič, and Mayor of the City of Ljubljana Zoran Janković. They will also be joined by the deans of the University of Ljubljana’s 23 faculties and three academies.

More than 50 stands will be set up at Congress Square, featuring, among others, the student councils of UL member institutions, Alumni UL, UL Career Centres, the Office for Equality and Inclusion, and the EUTOPIA Alliance. This year’s musical programme will feature the bands DEMM and Smetnaki.

Lectures for first-year students are cancelled on this day.
