Objectives and competences

The objective of the course is to provide an overview of elements, mechanisms and basic concepts of operation of modern communication network services.

Acquainting with modern connection principles, network protocols, management mechanisms, security approaches and Internet system services.

Students will acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in these fields.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures for theoretical aspects,

laboratory exercises and team work for real-case scenarios and problem solving through project work. Elearning. Study visits and invited lecturers.

Expected study results

After successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

– describe network technologies, services and architectures in enterprise and operator environments,

– differentiate tasks of different network layers,

– differentiate types of network traffic,

– configure user, home and enterprise network devices for basic connectivity,

– configure operator network devices for basic connectivity,

– compare network services for home, enterprise and operator networks.
