University of Ljubljana publishes new guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence
Publication date: 1. 9. 2026The University of Ljubljana (UL) has prepared new guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI), establishing a common framework for its safe, responsible, considered and transparent use in the academic environment. The guidelines are intended for students, teaching staff, researchers and professional staff.
The guidelines apply to learning, teaching, assessment, research and development activities, as well as professional and administrative processes.
Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important part of higher education, research and the workplace. Through the new guidelines, the University of Ljubljana aims to ensure a common understanding of its use and encourage the development of digital competences, while respecting academic integrity, research ethics, personal data protection, copyright and information security.
Principles of responsible use of artificial intelligence
The guidelines are based on key principles for the responsible use of artificial intelligence. These include individual responsibility for the final result, data protection and confidentiality, critical and considered use of technology, academic and professional integrity, transparency of use, equitable access, and proportionality of use according to its purpose and circumstances.
The guidelines were prepared by a working group in cooperation with the Digital UL Centre. Their development was based on the understanding that artificial intelligence offers numerous opportunities to improve learning, research and work processes, while at the same time raising important ethical, legal and professional questions.
The guidelines are designed as a living document that the University of Ljubljana will update and supplement in line with technological and legislative developments and the needs of the university community.
