Prof. Dr Bogoljub Orel has passed away
Publication date: 4. 5. 2026We have received the sad news that on Saturday, the respected retired professor, former head of the Laboratory of Electrical Devices and long-time head of the Department of Power Systems and Devices, Prof. Dr Bogoljub Orel, passed away.
The funeral will take place in the family circle. Information regarding the memorial session will be communicated at a later date.
Prof. Dr Bogoljub Orel was born in 1933 in Maribor. After completing secondary technical school, he worked for some time at Elektro Maribor and Elektra before continuing his studies at our faculty. He graduated in 1961 from the Department of Power Engineering. After two years in industry, he continued his career at the faculty, where he completed his master’s and doctoral studies in 1963 and 1971. He joined the faculty in 1963, first as a teaching assistant, later as an assistant professor and associate professor, and from 1987 onwards as a full professor in the fields of power engineering and power systems and devices.
His scientific and research work focused on the design, construction and operation of hydroelectric and thermal power plants. He was also engaged in energy evaluation and optimization, including the use of unconventional heat sources. His work extended beyond power engineering itself into related interdisciplinary areas. Until his retirement, he served as head of the Laboratory of Electrical Devices and repeatedly as head of the Department of Power Systems and Devices.
We will preserve the memory of our respected professor with deep appreciation and respect.
