UEFA President Visits UL FE
Publication date: 26. 3. 2026On Monday, March 23, 2026, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana was visited by the President of the European Football Association (UEFA), Mr. Aleksander Čeferin, a renowned Slovenian lawyer and one of the most prominent football officials in the world.
He toured the faculty accompanied by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Marko Topič, and the Head of the Laboratory for Multimedia, Prof. Dr. Matevž Pogačnik. In the Laboratory of Automation and Cybernetics (LAK), where, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Igor Škrjanec, they successfully research and develop methods of machine learning, soft logic and artificial intelligence, Mr. Čeferin tried his hand at playing FuzbAI, automated table football, against artificial intelligence. LAK colleagues presented FuzbAI as an attractive training ground for the use of artificial intelligence in the development of new concepts of automated management in real time.
The visit continued at the Laboratory for Multimedia (LMMFE) where researchers presented current projects – from the development of solutions for sign language and subtitling, also for live sports broadcasts, to achievements in the field of extremely fast data transfer in networks. Mr. Čeferin was particularly interested in the field of cybersecurity and innovative approaches with which the faculty addresses the increasing challenges of the digital environment. He expressed his enthusiasm and similarity to the innovative environment at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which he visited years ago.
The visit ended in a positive and connecting spirit. The participants emphasized that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, through its activities, plays an important role in the development of knowledge and solutions that benefit students, young people, business partners, as well as the wider society.
