UL FE researchers among the world's most influential scientists
Publication date: 14. 5. 2026Researchers from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana are ranked among the world’s most influential scientists. The Stanford/Elsevier lists of the world’s top 2% most influential researchers for the 2020–2024 period include several members of UL FE in the fields of biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, biophysics, control engineering, electrical engineering, imaging technologies, energy and applied physics. At the faculty, this broad spectrum of research is known as Electrical Engineering+.
Among the highest-ranked UL FE researchers are Damijan Miklavčič, who achieved his highest ranking in 2024 in the field of biomedical engineering, Igor Škrjanc, recognized in the field of artificial intelligence in control engineering, and Tadej Kotnik, whose highest ranking was in biophysics. The lists also include Marko Čepin, Aleš Iglič, Marko Topič, Sašo Blažič, Tomaž Vrtovec, Lea Rems and Dušan Agrež.
The Stanford/Elsevier ranking is one of the established bibliometric indicators of research impact. Compared with the h-index alone, it provides a broader assessment by considering not only citation counts but also several other indicators, including co-authorship and the researcher’s role in publications. This enables a more balanced comparison of research impact within individual scientific disciplines.
The inclusion of UL FE researchers in these rankings is an important recognition of their individual achievements and at the same time confirms that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana makes a significant contribution to the advancement of science, technology and innovation at the international level.
