Workshop in Collaboration with Infineon: Tactile Sensors in Robotics

Publication date: 24. 2. 2026

On Monday, 2 March 2026, a full-day workshop will take place from 9:00 to 15:30 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana. The workshop is organized for students in collaboration with Infineon Technologies.

The workshop is intended for electrical engineering students, researchers, and industry professionals interested in the latest developments in tactile sensing technologies.

Interaction with the environment is essential for social robots, humanoid robots, and collaborative robots used in industry. In modern robotic applications, it is no longer sufficient merely to detect whether contact has occurred; it is also important to determine the location of the touch, the magnitude of the applied force, and the contact surface of the interaction. The ability to detect physical interactions on surfaces opens up new possibilities in robotics and many other fields.

During the workshop, Prof. Dr Roman Kamnik from the Laboratory for Robotics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering will present the development and design of tactile sensors for detecting the location and force of touch, based on an optical operating principle. The presentation will also introduce a manufacturing technology using a modern laser printer for 3D printing electronic circuits.

Following this, Dr Wolfgang Granig from Infineon Technologies will present various tactile sensing technologies, with a particular focus on magnetic and capacitive solutions for humanoid robots. In addition to technical knowledge, participants will also gain soft skills on how to clearly and effectively present their ideas.
