General overview of power quality, basic concepts and definitions, basic voltage quality parameters, overview of standards. Voltage quality measurements.

Harmonic distortion of voltage. Sources, propagation and consequences of harmonic distortion, compensation of harmonic distortion. Network modelling for harmonic propagation analysis, resonance phenomenon in power networks.

Voltage flicker. Sources, propagation and consequences of flicker, flicker compensation techniques. Network modelling for flicker propagation analysis.

Voltage sags and interruptions. Power outage indicators. Voltage sags, voltage unbalance, overvoltage.

Modern compensation devices. Topologies and mathematical model of voltage source converter.

Economic cost assessment for improving the quality of electricity supply.

Objectives

The student will acquire the knowledge of basic power quality terms and supply voltage characteristics and will also improve their knowledge of measurement performance, analysis of measurement results of power quality parameters, and possible measures to improve power quality.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, tutorials and laboratory practice. Part of the pedagogical process will be carried out with the help of ICT technologies and the opportunities they offer.
