Opis predmeta

The course in Image and Video Processing is focused on computerized information-driven techniques for processing and analysis of multidimensional signals, represented in the form of images and videos. It encompasses the basic description of image properties (formation, sampling, grayscale and color maps, color spaces, standards), visualization modes for multidimensional images (histograms, cross-sections, projections, surface and volume rendering), image manipulation methods (interpolation and decimation, intensity and geometrical transforms, compression), and techniques for image and video processing and analysis (spatial and spectral filtering, segmentation, registration). Knowledge of basic approaches in combination with information theory is necessary for further understanding of procedures based on artificial intelligence, specifically deep learning, which are presented as a modern approach for image and video processing and analysis.

Cilji

The course objective is to obtain knowledge in the field of digital image and video processing and analysis, including the understanding of digital processing of multidimensional signals, obtaining qualifications for choosing relevant methods for image acquisition, processing and storage, interpretation of colors in digital imaging systems, performing intensity and geometrical image transformations, understanding of the techniques for image segmentation and registration, understanding of the representation of multidimensional signals in the frequency domain, understanding image compression algorithms, and understanding the basic principles of deep learning for image and video processing. Practical laboratory work consists of implementing computerized and information-driven techniques for digital image and video processing.

Metode poučevanja in učenja

During lectures, theoretical aspects of techniques, existing standards and established methods are given, which are additionally supported by descriptions of practical examples from different fields of application. During laboratory work, techniques for computerized image and video processing and analysis are developed and implemented.
