Subject description

The subject Internet systems deals with the key concepts of Internet systems, which are essential for understanding the functioning of modern communications and applications. It contains an analysis of connectivity at different layers of the protocol stack, the flow of communication between users and network components. Core topics include consideration of Ethernet and Internet Protocol, routing, multicast, home and carrier network architecture, and operatorship. It additionally focuses on virtual private networks, fundamentals of cyber security and cloud technologies, including a practical example of an application solution such as Blockchain.

Objectives

This course is designed to give an overview of basic concepts of Internet networks and the operation of packet-switched systems. Understanding the basic building blocks of Internet networks; the basic mechanisms; network, transport and application protocols and services in Internet networks.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures for theoretical aspects,

laboratory exercises and team work for real-case scenarios and problem solving through team work. Elearning. Study visits and invited lecturers.
