Subject description

 In this course, we will cover advanced networking topics in more detail. Particular attention will be paid to label-based Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Metro Ethernet networks. We will learn about approaches to planning opperative and enterprise networks. We will present in more detail 5G mobile networks with typical verticals and their specificities, and the network aspects of cloud computing systems. Throughout the course, we will pay particular attention to the topic of network cybersecurity, both in the context of fixed, mobile and wireless systems.

Objectives

The objective of the course is to provide an advanced insight into concepts, architectures and protocols in modern telecommunication systems. The focus is on advanced network protocols mechanisms, and service models. Students will acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in these fields.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures for theoretical aspects, laboratory exercises and team work for real-case scenarios and problem solving through project work. Part of the pedagogical process will be carried out with the help of ICT technologies and the possiblities they offer. Study visits and invited lecturers.
