Principles of operation and manufacturing of advanced semiconductor elements.
Advanced properties and operation of inorganic, organic and hybrid semiconductors: structure and energy bands, doping and types of semiconductors, carrier transport, charge selective contacts.
Acquisition of raw materials and processing of semiconductor materials, technological equipment for production, vacuum technology.
Manufacturing processes of layers and structures: deposition techniques for growing different layers, doping technology, structuring, lithography, wet and dry etching. Overview of manufacturing processes of individual elements (diode, MOS transistor, solar cell) and larger assemblies (integrated circuits).
Characterization methods of mechanical, electronic and optical properties: topology and morphology, layer thickness, determination of chemical composition and crystal structure, position of energy bands and semiconductor quality.
Manufacturing processes and characterization in photovoltaic and optoelectronic elements (silicon, perovskite and other thin-film solar cells, semiconductor lasers, LED lights, semiconductor sensors).
New technologies and materials: nanotubes, graphene, quantum technologies, materials for photonic integrated circuits.
Cilji
Knowledge of the basics of the operation of advanced semiconductor elements.
Knowledge of modern process and characterization techniques, and trends in the field of advanced semiconductor technologies.
The ability to continue independent research work in the field.
Metode poučevanja in učenja
- Lectures are held at the beginning of the semester in one or two terms (overview of topics and trends).
- Consultations (mainly within the scope of the seminar assignment).
- Individual work and seminar assignment: selection of the topic of the seminar assignment after consultation with the lecturer. The student studies the chosen topic, prepares a seminar paper and then defends it.
