Dear colleagues,

We have an honour and a pleasure of inviting you to the next European Joint Theory/Experiment Meeting on Membranes (EJTEMM) that will take place in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, between January 28–30, 2026.

The research of membranes is a subject of increasing interest in many scientific fields, in particular those considering living organisms. Discoveries on the nano and micro scales are being connected to the behaviour of organisms, communities and ecosystems on the global and universal scale, thereby opening huge possibilities to application of knowledge on the membranes. The interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research is highly warranted and we are looking forward to the meeting of experts from different fields sharing the devotion to membrane research. Theoretical models of membrane features introduce a highly predictable description into the science of living systems which was in the past considered a too complex task. On the other hand, advanced technologies are enabling the experimental insight into these systems. The advancement of knowledge is possible only with intertwining of both, the theoretical and the experimental research. The EJTEMM meetings have so far provided valuable opportunities for presentation of results, exchange of knowledge, have been a source of new ideas and possibilities for future collaborations and we expect this excellent tradition to continue in the upcoming one.

Excellent science will be presented by top experts from the field. Also, we are especially happy to welcome young researchers and students to present their work.

Ljubljana was built on the remnants of a Roman city Emona in the medieval times. Now, it is Slovenia’s capital and largest city with about 300.000 inhabitants. It’s known for its university population and green spaces, including the expansive Tivoli Park. The curving Ljubljanica River, and with it the blooming outdoor cafes, divides the city’s old town from its commercial hub. Ljubljana has a vivid cultural life boasting concerts, galleries and museums. Its position allows the visitors to reach the mountains, where they can ski in the winter, or the sea within an hour drive. Besides the scientific part, we are looking forward to share precious time with you – at social events, to feel the atmosphere of the city, which is – as the legend goes – protected by the dragon.
