University of Ljubljana's highest awards

The University of Ljubljana will host University Week from 28 November to 2 December 2022, a week of celebratory events traditionally held to mark the anniversary of the founding of Slovenia's oldest university. This year, on the occasion of the University's 103rd birthday, the most outstanding research achievements will be presented, and honorary degrees, plaques, prizes and awards will be awarded to those who have made the University of Ljubljana a better university year after year. Therecipients of the highest awards of the University of Ljubljana, who come from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, are:

Associate Professor Dr Marko Jošt, who received the award for one of the most outstanding research achievements. The project "Perovskite-CIGS tandem solar cells: from a certified conversion efficiency of 24.2% to 30% and beyond", for which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jošt is the main contributor, has been selected as one of the University of Ljubljana's Most Outstanding Projects for 2022. Associate Professor Marko Jošt was awarded the University of Ljubljana's Young Teachers and Higher Education Associates Charter, which is given for outstanding teaching, research and artistic achievements.

Prof. Dr. Marko Čepin, who received a gold plaque for outstanding merits in the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic creativity and for enhancing the reputation of the University of Ljubljana. "Prof. Dr. Marko Čepin is a highly renowned expert in the field of probabilistic safety analysis and reliability of power systems. He is the author of numerous scientific and professional works, a respected teacher and mentor, and a successful leader of applied and development projects. His scientific work and his work in international professional associations contribute greatly to the reputation of the University of Ljubljana in the world."

Valentina Stanić and Darja Uršič, who received the University of Ljubljana's ceremonial charter for the best academic achievements.

Erna Novak, Marija Kutnar, Špela Hren, who received the award for professional associates of the University of Ljubljana, which is given for a significant contribution to the improvement of work processes and a positive climate at member faculties.

Prof. Dr. Franc Smole, who received the title of Professor Emeritus of the University of Ljubljana. Prof. Smole started his work at the University of Ljubljana in 1980 and worked there until his recent retirement. The main focus of his research is in the field of modelling, simulation and characterisation of semiconductor materials and elements, and he has received several awards for his research work. The integrity and success of his scientific research and teaching work is demonstrated by more than 40 original scientific papers in first-quartile journals and more than 1500 net citations, and by the quality of his lectures, supported by 7 textbooks and other teaching materials, and by 67 mentorships and co-mentorships, including six PhD students.

Ana Mandeljc, who received the Prešeren Prize, awarded to the best students in science. Ana Mandeljc completed her Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, majoring in Robotics, with the thesis "Mechanism of a robotic device for finger and wrist training", for which she received the Prešeren Prize. The results of the thesis were published as an award-winning conference paper and an impact factor journal article, and a patent application has been filed for the developed device.
