Laboratory of Metrologyand Quality

The main research activities in the Laboratory for Metrology and Quality (LMK) and the Laboratory for Electrical Measurements (LELM) are primarily related to the development of new measurement and test (M&T) methods in the fields of temperature and electrical measurements, electrical safety and measurement uncertainty analysis. All activities are part of joint projects with renowned national measurement institutes such as The Netherlands Measurement Institute, NMi, Delft, The Netherlands, Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt,PTB, Berlin, Germany, National Institute of Standards and Metrology, NIST, Gaithersburg, USA, and others.

M&T and industrial development focus on the development of new M&T procedures, instruments and equipment. An important part of these activities is the evaluation and calibration in the field of thermometry, which includes contact and non-contact temperature measurements as well as moisture measurements. All these activities are covered by an internationally recognised accreditation service (Dutch Accreditation Service, RvA), which enables the Laboratory for Metrology and Quality to act as the holder of the Slovenian national measurement benchmark in the field of thermometry.

In the field of electrical measurements, new methods are being developed for analogue and digital conversions, as well as new methods for electrical safety. Closely related to electrical safety is the conformity assessment under the European Low Voltage Directive.

In all areas of basic and applied research, close collaboration with industry is established in the form of joint research projects, direct involvement in industrial engineering projects and participation in international projects such as the 5th Framework Programme and EUROMET inter-laboratory comparisons. In addition to cooperation with industry, government institutions such as the Market Inspection Authority, the Slovenian Metrology Institute and others are also important partners.
