Research work at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Electrical Engineering is carried out in laboratories and programme and research groups. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering has 27 research laboratories within nine departments. The laboratories carry out programmes and projects under calls for tenders from ministries and agencies of the Republic of Slovenia, cooperate with Slovenian industry, industries in other countries and are involved in projects under framework programmes and other European Community programmes.

In 2022, the faculty was involved in 15 research programmes with a total programme funding of EUR 2.258 million. The faculty coordinates or independently implements 12 research programmes and participates in three research programmes coordinated by the Jožef Stefan Institute. The Faculty also runs the Biocybernetics Laboratory Infrastructure Centre (1.07 FTE) within the framework of the University of Ljubljana Network of Infrastructure Centres (MRIC UL), which has been approved for funding for the period 2022-2027.

On the basis of the Public Call for Research Programme Funding JRO 2021 and the reports on the results of research programmes, 5 research programmes were approved by ARRS for the new funding period starting in 2021, which are carried out independently by the faculty. One of them was merged with another research programme within the faculty.
