On 3 December 1919, the first lecture in the Slovenian language was held at the University of Ljubljana, which is why this day is considered to be the birthday of the oldest and largest University in Slovenia, which today boasts international reputation.

Each year, in the first week of December, the University of Ljubljana presents the most outstanding research achievements with the greatest respect, and awards honorary degrees, plaques, prizes and distinctions to those who have made the University of Ljubljana a better university.

Recipients of university prizes and awards

  • The students' certificates for the best academic achievements were awarded to Valentina Stanić and Darjo Uršič.
  • The Gold Plaque of the University of Ljubljana, which is awarded for outstanding merit in the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic creativity and for enhancing the reputation of the University of Ljubljana, was awarded to Prof. Dr. Marko Čepin from the Laboratory for Electrical Networks and Devices.
  • The University of Ljubljana's award for outstanding teaching, research and artistic achievements was presented to Dr Marko Jošt from the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics. Marko Jošt is also the recipient of the award for one of the most outstanding research achievements.
  • The title of Emeritus Professor was awarded to Prof. Dr. Franc Smole.
  • The Prešeren Prize for the work "Mechanism of a robotic device for finger and wrist training" was awarded to Ana Mandeljc.
  • The award for the University of Ljubljana's professional staff for their significant contribution to the improvement of work processes and the positive climate at the University of Ljubljana and the Rector's Office was presented to Erna Novak, Marija Kutnar and Špela Hren.
Prof. Dr. Franc Smole

  • The students' certificates for the best academic achievements were awarded to Emina Ferzana Uzunović and Klemen Pevec.
  • The Gold Plaque of the University of Ljubljana, which is awarded for outstanding merit in the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic creativity and for enhancing the reputation of the University of Ljubljana, was also awarded to Prof. Dr. Janez Krč from the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics.
  • The University of Ljubljana's award for outstanding teaching, research and artistic achievements was presented to Peter Naglič, PhD, Associate Professor at the Laboratory for Imaging Technologies.
  • This year, UL FE and the University of Ljubljana received the award for significant contribution to the improvement of work processes and positive climate at the member institutions and the Rector's Office . Tea Urankar, Faculty Secretary, and Dr. Nina Gržinič Frelih from the Communication Service.
  • The Rector's Award for the best innovation in the category of researchers employed full-time at the University was awarded to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matej Reberšek, Prof. Dr. Damijan Miklavčič and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eva Pirc.
Prof. Dr. Janez Krč

 

  • The Gold Plaque of the University of Ljubljana, which is awarded for outstanding merit in the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic creativity and for enhancing the reputation of the University of Ljubljana, was presented this year to Prof. Dr Andrej Kos, Head of the Telecommunications Laboratory and a respected teacher and mentor. He has lectured as an invited professor at several renowned foreign universities. His scientific research focuses on cyberinfrastructures and applications, including 5G and 6G networks. In addition to EU and Slovenian Research Agency projects, he has achieved excellent results in numerous projects with industry, and participates in committees and boards at the Faculty and the University, as well as in international professional associations.
Prof. Dr. Andrej Kos
  • This year, the UL FE Young Higher Education Teachers and Higher Education Associates Award for outstanding pedagogical, research and artistic achievements will be presented to Dr Matevž Bošnak, an assistant professor whose research work shows a high degree of ingenuity, diligence and ability to solve complex problems, making him a world-class expert in the field of automation, especially in autonomous mobile systems. His contribution to the development of a gait rehabilitation device has been recognised by the ARRS as one of the six most outstanding achievements in the field of engineering in the Excellence in Science Awards.

  • The title Professor Emeritus is awarded to retired professors of the University of Ljubljana for their outstanding contribution to the activities, reputation and development of the University of Ljubljana. This year, the title was awarded to Prof. Dr. Borut Zupančič from UL FE, who started his career at the University of Ljubljana in 1977 and worked there until his retirement. The main focuses of his research are in the fields of modelling, simulation and control, and he has received several national awards for his research work. The integrity and success of his teaching work is demonstrated by the quality of his lectures, which are supported by 14 textbooks and other teaching materials, and by 77 mentoring and co-mentoring assignments. He has co-authored a scientific monograph published by the international publishing house Prentice Hall.
Prof. Dr. Borut Zupančič
  • The University of Ljubljana's Student Charter for the Best Academic Achievement is awarded to students who have achieved the most outstanding academic success. This year, Anja Šurina and Matej Tomc from UL FE are among them. Anja Šurina has an overall average grade of 9.77 in the three years of her Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition to her studies, she is also involved in research activities at the Faculty and is the current President of the Student Council of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. In her free time she trains jazz ballet and travels.
    Matej Tomc completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with an average exam grade of 9.82. He continued his studies at the Master's degree programme in Electrical Engineering, majoring in Robotics, with an average exam grade of 10. At URI Soča, he is working on the development of devices to help rehabilitate patients recovering from stroke.
  • The Award for Special Achievements of Students is awarded to students of the University of Ljubljana for their achievements and involvement in extracurricular activities. This year, the award was presented to the UL FE Multimedia student team, with  Žana Juvan, Maša Egart, Ana Berkopec, Anže Zadravec, Tim Jeršič, Andrej Kokalj and Yari Stepanov as its members. Since 2016, the Student Multimedia Team has been actively involved in the promotion of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana in the field of multimedia, actively participating in the preparation and execution of events, filming numerous faculty events, producing promotional videos, conducting event broadcasts and providing multimedia support.
  • The award is presented to the University of Ljubljana's professional staff for their significant contribution to the improvement of work processes and the positive climate at the member institutions and the Rector's Office.This year, the award was presented to Petra Koželj from UL FE, who has been successfully and efficiently leading the work in the research sector of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering since 2013.The award was presented to the University of Ljubljana's professional staff for their significant contribution to the improvement of work processes and the positive climate at the member institutions and the Rector's Office. Under her leadership, the research sector provides excellent support to researchers in project management. Her motivation, precision and dedication undoubtedly contribute to the better functioning of the Faculty.
