First Slovenian conference on chips and semiconductors SLO-chip 2023

Date of publication: 24.1.2023

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana hosted today over 120 participants of the first Slovenian conference on chips and semiconductors SLO-chip 2023, organised by the Department of Electronics together with the professional society MIDEM and the Slovenian Section of IEEE.

SLO-Chip 2023, held under the honorary patronage of the Slovenian Academy of Engineering and the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, presented the latest trends in micro-, nano- and quantum electronics and highlighted Slovenian achievements in the field of research, development and prototyping and production of chips and semiconductors.

The importance of the event in the field of semiconductor technologies and chip manufacturing was also expressed by the presence and opening speeches of distinguished guests, including the highest representatives of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, but the Minister Dr. Emilija Stojmenova Duh and the Minister Dr. Igor Papič excused themselves at the last moment due to the change of the regular session of the National Assembly.

According to the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Gregor Majdič, this is an event that puts Slovenia on the map, not only of developers of high-quality chips and semiconductors, but also of promoters of the knowledge gained through this activity.

The important impact of R&D on high value-added production was underlined by State Secretary Matevž Frangež from the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, who also strongly supports the close involvement and interconnection of R&D institutions with the economy.

The Director of the Jožef Stefan Institute, Prof. Dr. Boštjan Zalar, presented the content and outlined the significance of the Letter of Intent for Cooperation in the Field of Semiconductor Technologies and Microelectronics, which was signed by the most prominent stakeholders of research and innovation in the field of chips and semiconductors and is open to all interested parties to join the integration of Slovenian knowledge in this strategic technological area.

According to Prof. Dr. Marek Topič from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, chair of the first Slovenian conference on chips and semiconductors SLO-chip 2023, today's and further SLO-chip conferences will enable even closer links between the economy and research and development institutions and a broader promotion of domestic (Slovenian) knowledge in the region and the world.
