The prestigious scientific journal Science published an article on Thursday 6 April 2023 Photovoltaics at multi-terawatt scale: Waiting is not an option (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adf6957), co-authored by leading American, Asian and European experts in the field of photovoltaics, including Prof. Dr. Marko Topič, together with five contributors to the European Technology and Innovation Platform (ETIP PV) (https://etip-pv.eu), which Prof. Topič chaired until recently.

This is an article on the important contribution of photovoltaics to the transformation of the energy sector, written by these experts following the 3rd International Terawatt Workshop, held in Freiburg, Germany, in April 2022. The paper makes the case for the exponential growth of photovoltaics, which has surpassed a total capacity of 1000 GW of solar power plants by 2022, and projects, on the basis of current research and innovation, that we will maintain a 25% annual global growth rate in photovoltaics over the next decade, reaching 75 TW of installed solar power plants by 2050. In the face of the climate crisis, there is no room for hesitation. At this rate, PV will play a key role in limiting climate change and in the transition to sustainable energy. And not only in electricity generation, but also in the electrification of other energy sectors and the production of solar fuels, with hydrogen at the forefront.
