[ICTinfo] Software market to grow at a double-digit annual rate in 2022-2026

Date of publication: 27.12.2022

Analyst firm IDC estimates that the Russian-Ukrainian war and the current geopolitical and macroeconomic turmoil have not had a significant impact on the software market this year. It grew 7.1% at current exchange rates and 16.4% at constant exchange rates in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region in the first half of 2022. It grew by 16.4 per cent at both exchange rates in the Americas and by 10.6 per cent at current exchange rates and 18 per cent at constant exchange rates in Asia Pacific (including Japan (APJ)). The lower growth in EMEA is due to inflation and the weakening of the euro against the dollar. For 2023, IDC forecasts growth of 8.9% in EMEA, around 11% in the Americas and around 12% in APJ. The average compound annual growth rate (CAGR) globally over the period 2022-2026 is expected to be 10.9%. The growth of application development and deployment software will far outpace that of application and system infrastructure software, reaching 17.1 per cent.

More information

The C19 pandemic and the measures taken to contain it, and now the war in Ukraine, are also having a major impact on the ICT sector, as confirmed by research and analysis in almost all segments of the industry. A particular feature of ICT is that it allows us to predict, monitor, study and control changes not only in our own industry but in all others, which has been a valuable help to all of us over the last two years. In fact, ICT helps companies and institutions in all industries to organise their work, adapt their operations, discover new opportunities, process data and obtain estimates and forecast future trends.

Last but not least, ICT enables schools and universities to implement hybrid versions of teaching and to digitise learning processes in a meaningful way.

This is why we have decided to publish regular summaries of information, assessments, analyses and studies by research and analyst companies that can help everyone to better monitor, learn about and understand changes and trends and to adapt more successfully to the new ICT era.
