Date of publication: 21.4.2023

On Thursday, 20 April, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL FE) hosted a festive academy on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the publication of the Electrotechnical Journal and the 70th anniversary of the Electrotechnical Association of Slovenia (EZS). The gathering was addressed by the Prime Minister, Dr. Robert Golob, and the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the current President of the EZS, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič.

A year of anniversaries in the field of electrical engineering in Slovenia

This year we celebrate a number of important milestones in the field of electrical engineering. 140 years ago, in 1883, the first electric light was switched on. In 1923, for the first time in the history of Slovenians, Slovenian electricians organised themselves into a professional organisation called the Professional Cooperative of Licensed Electricians, which united a large part of the electricians in Slovenia at that time. After the Second World War, the Electrotechnical Society of Slovenia was founded at the then Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana, which in 1961 grew into the The Electrotechnical Association of Slovenia. This allowed for a more organised activity in the profession, which over the years also led to the establishment of professional societies.

Prime Minister Guest of Honour at the Gala Academy

To mark these important anniversaries, UL FE hosted a Gala Academy to look back at the past and discuss the way forward. After the welcome Dean Prof. Dr. Gregor Dolinar Dr. Dolinar addressed the audience the Prime Minister, Dr Robert Golob, who in his address to the participants stressed the importance of electrical engineering for co-creating the future, as we can no longer imagine life without electricity and electrical appliances. Electrical engineering is one of the cornerstones of most modern technologies and is indispensable in times of rapid technological progress. Dr Golob also pointed out that there have never been so many opportunities, including financial ones, for the boldest ambitions of electrical engineers to come to fruition. He urged them to make rapid and active use of the available resources for innovation. This was followed by a speech by the current President of the EWC and Minister for Higher Education, Science and Innovation Dr Igor Papič, The event was also attended by the Minister for Digital Transformation Dr Emilija Stojmenova Duh.

The Electrotechnical Journal celebrates 90 years

Strock newsletter Electrotechnical Journal (EV) have started publishingtin 1931 within the framework of the then Electrotechnical Societytand is regularly published regularly for all but two years during the Second World War. From 1968 it has been published under the auspices of EZS, the content of which is under the responsibility of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UL. From the very beginning, both the electrotechnicians and the articles in Elektrotehniški vestnik have dealt with the problems of Slovenian electrotechnics and have participated in its development. The objectives of both remain the same today - to actively present and participate in the development of electrotechnics and all of its branching fields. Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Andrej Žemva Prof. Dr. Zemva walked through the long history of the journal and highlighted its importance in the introduction of professional standards."TheEditorial Board's plans for the future include the publication of original and transparent scientific and professional articles by national and international authors, the continued care for the Slovene technical language and the reputation and visibility of the journal in the national and international arena. Slovenians can be proud of the 90th anniversary, which only a few electrical engineering journals in the world can boast, and wehopethat this tradition will continue in the future.," added Mr.rof. dr. Žemva.

Faculty celebrates two years with a musical performance of the string quartet C'est La Vie, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urban Sedlar D., prepared a very topical lecture on cyber security for the guests.
