OpenChess chess tournament at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana

On Tuesday, 9 May, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL FE) hosted the OpenChess FE chess tournament. Students, teachers and other chess enthusiasts tested their chess skills and competed in simultaneous chess games.

A tense chess simultaneity

The registered competitors first competed against each other in a fun atmosphere, and then the best of them tried their hand at simultaneous assistant Dr. Matej Filip, who showed his excellent chess skills. The tournament participants learned new tricks and strategies and tested their skills against one of the best chess players in the world. Ljubljana Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

A tribute to Professor and chess grandmaster Milan Vidmar

The event was a symbolic tribute to Milan Vidmar, full professor and dean of the former Faculty of Engineering, who was largely responsible for the development of electrical engineering in Slovenia. In addition to his field of expertise, Prof. Vidmar also made a name for himself as an outstanding chess player on a global scale, being the only amateur chess player to compete among professional players and becoming a chess grandmaster in 1911.

The OpenChess FE tournament was a great opportunity for all chess lovers to meet new people and socialise with other chess players and students of the college.
