Applications open for Seeds for the future 2022 Slovenia

Date of publication: 18.10.2022

Huawei will be organising the Seeds for the Future Young Talent Programme in Slovenia for the third consecutive year from 7 to 14 November. The main objective is to improve young people's digital skills, engage them in the modern digital environment and encourage them to pursue their passion for science and exploration. Applications for students close on 23 October. Students from all Slovenian faculties are invited to apply for the free online programme.

The ICT industry is evolving rapidly, and business models and user needs are changing in parallel. Demand for technical talent is high, as it is essential for the digital transformation of society and the economy. However, in many countries there is a significant gap between what young people are learning and the skills that are needed in the real world.

To bridge the gap between theory and practice and to foster the development of technology talent among young people in Slovenia, Huawei is organising the Seeds for the Future programme. The 8-day online programme, which will include live activities, aims to inspire local talent, improve knowledge sharing, foster greater understanding and interest in the ICT sector, and strengthen collaboration in the digital community. This year, the live programme will take place in the afternoon from Monday to Friday.

In addition to the opening event, there will be a graduation ceremony and an expert roundtable, where guests will discuss the field of talent, its development and its role in the new digital future.

Gordana Kisilak, Seeds for The Future National Coordinator for Slovenia, stressed that young people need an ambitious environment for their development and progress, one that actively engages them in the search for innovative technological solutions. "It is crucial for our digital future that innovation and young talent are fostered at the same time. I am proud that Seeds for the Future has established a long-term system for identifying and developing talent, of which there is no doubt that there is no shortage in Slovenia and elsewhere. This year will be the third time we will be running the programme in Slovenia. It is important to identify young talent and to follow and encourage them on their professional development path."

The statistics are also telling. By last year, 12,413 students from 137 countries around the world had already participated in the Global Programme, and all of them confirm that their participation in the Global Programme was already a milestone in their development and thinking. Another motivation is the participation in the global Tech4Good competition, where last year the Slovenian team reached the final.

All students who successfully complete the programme are awarded a certificate. The top two students from the 2022 generation will attend the European Student Summit in Athens in December.
